There has been a lot of talk and discussion on whether a third booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine would be needed for it to be effective against the coronavirus.
The US administration is convinced while some other countries are considering it seriously.
AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria said recently that India might need a booster shot “at some point in time.”
According to White House chief medical adviser Dr Anthony Fauci, three doses of the vaccine may become the standard regimen for most people.
“I must say from my own experience as an immunologist, I would not at all be surprised that the adequate full regimen for vaccination will likely be three doses,” Fauci said during a White House press briefing.
The Joe Biden administration will be distributing COVID-19 “booster shots” in the US from September 20.

In a health plan outlined last month, it was pointed out that protection from vaccines against coronavirus disease could decrease even after taking the second shot if several months have passed since that dose.
The new plan aims to make the third dose available to Americans eight months after they get their second shot of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID vaccine.
Those who are opposed to this idea argue that US public health and drug authorities are yet to give their go-ahead to the plan.
