Mumbai: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been a permanent fixture at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival for several years.
This time, it was a tad different. When the former Miss World left Mumbai for the French Riviera earlier this week, what caught the attention of onlookers was a cast on her right hand.
Even when she walked the red carpet, attended events and returned to Mumbai on Sunday morning, the white strapping and cast was omnipresent, with daughter Aaradhya by her side to lend a helping hand.
According to a source close to Aishwarya, the actress broke her wrist last weekend but didn’t want to cancel her annual appearance at Cannes.
She flew to France after discussions with specialists, and now that she is back from Cannes, Aishwarya will undergo surgery on her wrist, as per a report in Hindustan Times.
“Aishwarya broke her wrist over the (last) weekend and thus had to get a cast on. However, she was adamant that she wants to keep her Cannes tradition going. Thus, even after the injury, she completed her professional commitments and made it to Cannes,” the source told HT.
The surgery is scheduled for later in the week, the source added.
The hand injury notwithstanding, Aishwarya grabbed eyeballs for her looks and outfits at the 77th Cannes festival, like she does every year.
She wore creations by designers Falguni and Shane Peacock.
Her first outfit was a black, white and gold corsetted gown, crafted from taffeta and adorned with molten gold flowers and plates. The other standout dress was a turquoise and silver fringe gown.
