New Delhi: ‘Gadar 2’ has caught the imagination of film buffs in India.
The sequel to the 2021 film ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, set against the backdrop of Partition of India in 1947, was strategically released four days before Independence Day. The Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer earned a whopping Rs 57 crore on August 15.
There were reports in media claiming even President Droupadi Murmu wanted to watch the film at Rashtrapati Bhavan, and that a VIP screening had been arranged.
However, the government clarified on Wednesday that no exclusive VIP screening of ‘Gadar 2’ has been organised for President Murmu.
“It is a regular screening that happens in Rashtrapati Bhavan and the President had not wished for any such special screening. The President is not attending the screening,” Press Information Bureau (PIB) said in a fact-check post.
According to media reports, the ‘Gadar 2’ team had received a call from the Censor board saying that President Murmu wished to watch the film. The reports had quoted the film’s director and producer Anil Sharma, who shared the joy over the “special request”.
