Malkangiri: Probably unable to get hitched after a long courtship, a girl and her boyfriend, who had been missing for some days, were found dead in a forest near MV-7 village of Odisha’s Malkangiri district in the morning on Friday. Police recovered their bodies and sent for post mortem.
The deceased were identified as Nande Madkami and Nabin Madkami, both residents of Aro Colony in Tamasa panchayat. Police quoting some villagers said that the two, aged above 18 years, were in a relationship, but their families opposed it. The two belonged to a tribal community.
The marriage of the girl had been fixed with another youth a few days ago. However, the two went missing since Tuesday. Their family members and villagers had been searching for them, but to no avail.
Police said, some locals had spotted two bodies in Nilagiri forest near the village and informed police.
Police led by Malkangir SDPO Sachin Patel and IIC Ringan Kind rushed to the spot and started an investigation. Their family members identified the bodies. Police recovered two glasses near the bodies. It is suspected that the love couple might have committed suicide by consuming poison, police said.
