Cuttack: The sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court in Odisha’s Cuttack on Thursday allowed Commissionerate Police to take Sanjay Jalal and Rahul Syal on two-day remand for further questioning in the sale of duplicate blood pressure medicines, Telma AM and Telma-40 tablets, to retailers in the city.
They were arrested on September 13. Sanjay Jalal is the owner of Puja Enterprises and Rahul Syal of VR Drug Agencies.
Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra also informed that Rs 28 lakh was recovered from the bank accounts of the two accused. “If required a team will be sent to other states to collect more information,” he told the media.
Puja Enterprises and VR Drug Agencies are drug wholesale points in Manik Ghosh Bazaar here. A team of Directorate of Drugs Control had found the stock of the BP medicines allegedly manufactured and sold by a fake pharmaceutical company in the name of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd at their shops. The accused duo went underground following the raid and later surrendered at Purighat police station.
According to the FIR, they had procured the spurious drugs from Bengaluru and Gaya and supplied those to more than 100 retailers.
Following the disclosure, the Cuttack District Chemist and Druggist Association also cancelled the memberships of the two drug distributors.
