Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested a person for allegedly assaulting a youth by posing as the IIC of Airfield police station in Odisha capital.
The imposter has been identified as Rashmi Ranjan Bhuyan, a native of Kendrapada risiding at Sundarpada in Bhubaneswar. He was arrested on the basis of a written complaint filed by the victim, Ranjan Jena, for misusing police uniform.
According to sources, Ranjan’s younger brother had borrowed some money that he did not repay later. To threaten him, Bhuyan posing as a police officer called him to a rented house at Botanda on outskirts of Bhubaneswar and thrashed him in presence of four of his associates. He also pressured Rajan to call his younger brother.
The accused managed to get the police uniform meant for a web series in which he was working, the sources added.
“The other accused will also be apprehended soon,” said Bhubaneswar Sub Division II ACP Girija Shankar Chakrabarty.
