Fake COVID Certificate: BMC Issues Show-Cause Notice To Clinical Lab In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to a pathological laboratory in the city for issuing fake COVID vaccination certificate.

In its notice to GenX Diagnostics in Saheed Nagar, the BMC has stated that a news item has been published in vernacular daily ‘Sambad’ mentioning that the laboratory has issued fake certificate of COVID vaccination. The news mentions that one person submitted his Aadhaar card through Whatsapp and obtained the COVID positive certificate.

The BMC pointed out that the GenX Diagnostics issued the certificate without going through the procedure of obtaining the genuine sample and putting it to appropriate test.

The municipal body has directed the laboratory to show cause why its licence will not be cancelled for violating the provisions of Epidemic Diseases Act within three days. If the lab fails to reply within the stipulated period, it will be deemed that it has no explanation to offer and accordingly actions will be taken against it, the BMC notice stated.
