Jajpur: Police seized counterfeit currency notes with the face value of Rs 13 lakh from a house in a village in the district on Sunday.
Sources said the police conducted a raid following information about fake currency notes being stored in the rented house in Santh Mahadev village under Town police station. They seized the printing machine and other equipment used for making the fake currency notes and arrested a person identified as Chandramani Bal from Katia under Mangalpur police limits.
Further investigation into the incident is underway and the arrested person is being interrogated.
“It is suspected that an organised fake currency racket is operating in the area. We are hopeful of getting valuable information about the racket from Bal,” a police official said.
The police are also likely to question the owner of the rented house to ascertain the identity of the arrested person.
