Lucknow: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has filed a complaint after fake notes worth Rs 1 crore was deposited in several banks in 2017 and 2018. The individual banks thereafter handed over the fake currency to RBI.
Ranjana Maravi, working as assistant manager of RBI at Lucknow’s Metropolitan Kotwali, said that 15,436 fake notes – of which 9,753 were of Rs 500 and 5,783 of Rs 1,000 — were deposited in the currency chest of RBI between October 2017 and March 2018.
Inspector Mahanagar Yashkant Singh said an investigation is underway.
