Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday busted a fake detergent powder and salt manufacturing unit in Odisha’s capital city.
During the raid conducted by Pahala Police at lane number 15 in Shiva Shakti Nagar near Hanspal, it was found that adulterated salt and detergent were being prepared and sold under the name of different reputed brands like TATA salt and Surf Excel at the unit. While packaging material, machinery and adulterated material were seized, a youth was detained for questioning.
“The raid was conducted in the presence of BMC food inspector on the basis of a tip-off about the illegal manufacturing unit,” said a police officer.
According to sources, these fake products were being sold at a higher rate with a packet of salt priced at Rs 25. “I have been working here for the past 3.5 years. Only salt and surf powder are packed here. I have no idea where the packets are delivered,” said a worker at the manufacturing unit.
The food inspector collected samples for further probe, the sources added.
