Fake Doctors Rule The Roost In Tribal Areas Of Odisha’s Malkangiri, Seven Arrested

Malkangiri: Chitrakonda Police arrested four quacks on Saturday night for allegedly treating tribals in Swabhiman Anchal by posing as doctors and seized a huge quantity of medicines from their possession.

The arrested, identified as Palas Ray, Biswadeb Sarkar, Bipin Chandra Nayak Behera and Sufal Biswas of Chitrakonda area, will be forwarded to the court on Sunday.

According to police sources, the accused have no MBBS degree or an occupational licence. They visit the tribal villages in Chitrakonda block and treat the patients by identifying themselves as doctors. They also charged them for the treatment.

It may be mentioned here that following information that some quacks were exploiting the tribals taking advantage of the ongoing lockdown, police had begun an investigation on the directive of the Malkangiri SP Rishikesh Khilari and arrested three quacks from Kalimela area on Saturday.

Following the interrogation of the three arrested quacks, police later arrested another four fake doctors late in the night.
