Fake Engine Oil, Duplicate Vehicle Parts Racket Busted In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown, the Commissionerate Police have busted a unit involved in counterfeit automobile spare parts and spurious lubricating engine oil at Rajarani Colony under Baragada police limits in Bhubaneswar.

Large quantities of counterfeit engine oil, lubricants, and fake spare parts for motorcycles and scooters were seized from the factory, which was later sealed. “Acting on a complaint by the owner against a franchise, we raided the unit and found duplicate Castrol engine oil and counterfeit spare parts of TVS and Honda. The seized duplicate vehicle spare parts are worth around Rs 15 lakh,” said Badagada police station IIC Trupti Ranjan Nayak.

Empty branded containers, stickers, and packaging materials were also found.

Police have detained two employees from the factory during the raid. Though they claimed that the proprietor is holidaying in Russia, cops suspect that it could be a ploy to mislead them. “We have detained two persons in connection with the case and a detailed investigation into the matter is on to ascertain involvement of others in the racket,” the IIC added.

Meanwhile, police have asked vehicle owners to remain cautious while purchasing spare parts and engine oil, as substandard products can lead to engines.
