Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested five cyber fraudsters, including the mastermind and a woman, in Bhubaneswar. They were allegedly functioning in the guise of an escort service provider.
The mastermind of this racket has been identified as Sushant Patra and his wife.
According to sources, the accused used to post advertisements on Google Ads about the escort service. The couple used to contact customers in lieu of providing escorts in hotels and in the process defraud them using various tactics.
The cops have seized as many as 105 SIM cards and 11 mobile phones, which were used for connecting with customers and cracking fraudulent deals.
“Besides, Rs 20 lakh parked in 15 bank accounts belonging to the mastermind Patra and his wife were also seized,” Assistant CP, Special Squad Sanjeev Satpathy told media.
The five accused have been produced in a local court and the cops are likely to seek their remand to ascertain the possible involvement of others in the offence.
