Bhubaneswar: Odisha police on Monday lodged an FIR at Kharvel Nagar here in connection with the circulation of a fake and fabricated letter in the name of State Intelligence Branch.
According to the the FIR, there is no section in the Intelligence Directorate in the name of ‘SIB Political Desk’ and no such letter was issued.
Hours after BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that he would contest from two Assembly constituencies, Hinjili and Beijipur, the state BJP had alleged that the CM took this decision as he feared losing from Hinjili.
The saffron party based its claim on an Odisha Police Intelligence Branch report, which it said had warned him against contesting him from Hinjili due to public anger over lapses in KALIA scheme and post-cyclone relief works.
Taking to its official Twitter handle, DGP, Odisha, had earlier denied the report and said that an FIR is being registered in this matter.
“A fake document purported to be assessment report of some Assembly segments by Odisha Police Intelligence Department has been shown in a press meet by a political party. The document is absolutely fake and fabricated. An FIR is being registered in this matter,” it tweeted.
A press note issued later said that urgent legal action is being initiated against the people responsible for defaming the police department with this blatant lie, all are advised to desist from circulating such unverified reports.
