Rourkela: Excise sleuths claimed to have busted an illegal bottling unit at Phuljhar under in Nuagaon area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday with the arrest of two persons and seizure of around 1000 litres of duplicate foreign liquor.
Two persons, identified as Pawan and Surendra Baidaik, were arrested for running the illegal bottling unit from a private school premises, Excise Inspector Snehalata Nayak said.
Mittal was running the illegal bottling unit while Baidaik was stated to be the owner of the private school, sources said.
A team of excise sleuths carried out a raid following direction from the Excise Commissioner and seized 1,248 bottles of liquor kept in 104 cartons.
They also seized huge quantities of fake labels, caps and empty bottles from the unit. A car being used for transportation of liquor was seized during the raid.
The accused persons were procuring spurious liquor from Ranchi and some other places outside Odisha and using the empty bottles of some costly liquor brands and fake labels at the bottling plant. The duplicate liquor was being supplied to roadside eateries in Rourkela and other places, they said.
