Fake Maoists Arrested For Extortion Bid In Odisha

Bhawanipatna: Kalahandi police on Sunday arrested three youths while allegedly trying to extort money from a local trader by posing as Maoists.

They have been identified as Deba Prasad Nayak, Gangaram Bemal and Chandra Rout.

According to police sources, the trio had demanded Rs 10 lakh from Tulasiram, a local trader, by identifying themselves as Maoists. They had threatened him with dire consequences if he informed the matter to police.

The trader got suspicious when they demanded the second instalment after he paid them Rs 70,000 and filed a complaint at Jaipatna police station.

Following which, police launched a probe and arrested the trio, the sources added.
