Cuttack: The Drug Enforcement squad busted a fake hand sanitizer manufacturing unit in the CDA area here and arrested the owner.
Acting on a tip-off, Drug Inspectors Jagannath Mallick of Zone-I, Sushant Kumar Sahu of Zone-II and Dharmadeb Puhan of Zone-III raided a house in Sector-11 and seized 296 bottles of Aloe Plus Sanitizer and Finish Sanitizer (30 ml each), 50 empty tubes of Patanjali Aloe Vera gel, 990 empty bottles with labels and 570 empty bottles without labels.
Talking to mediapersons, the Zone-III Drug Inspector said the Vaishnavi Enterprises, manufacturing the Aloe Plus and two Finish brand sanitizers, had not obtained the licence under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act-1940.
The company used to prepare the sanitizer by mixing spirit and nail polish remover with the Patanjali Aloe Vera. The owner of the company had sold more than 1000 fake sanitizer bottles in the last week.
“We have arrested the owner and registered a case against him,” he added.
