Balangir: Police along with a special team of Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) on Sunday raided shops at Kantabanji town in Balangir district and seized fake shampoo and face wash.
According to sources, the raids were conducted following several complaints from consumers about sub-standard products being sold in the town. The company officials had bought a few products posing as customers from these shops and tests confirmed that they were fake.
Police have reportedly detained two shop owners for interrogation.
“We found fake Clinic Plus shampoo sachets in one shop and a few bottles of fake Lakme products in another. We had earlier conducted survey and took samples from these shops about a month back. We came back after getting them checked. The products will be seized and we will soon lodge a copy right case,” said an HUL official accompanying the police team.
In 2008, Kantabanji was in news for alleged sale of fake medicines.
