Falling In Line: Twitter Issues Compliance Report, Appoints RGO

New Delhi: Twitter went a step closer to complying with new Indian IT rules by filing its first grievance redressal report on Sunday.

The micro-blogging site stated that it had acted against 133 posts for reasons ranging from harassment to privacy infringement, and also suspended about 18,000 accounts for child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity.

“In addition to the above data, we processed 56 grievances which were appealing Twitter account suspensions. These were all resolved and the appropriate responses were sent. We overturned 7 of the account suspensions based on the specifics of the situation, but the other accounts remain suspended,” stated the report, which covers the period from May 25 to June 26.

The US-headquartered company also appointed Vinay Prakash as its Resident Grievance Officer for India.

“Twitter can be contacted in India at the following address: 4th Floor, The Estate, 121 Dickenson Road, Bangalore 560 042,” Twitter’s update website stated.

Twitter, which has had issues with the Union government’s IT rules, is the third major social media platform to release a report as mandated by the new rules. Facebook and Google were the earlier ones to publish monthly reports.
