‘False’ Poll Affidavits: Cong Demands Odisha Minister’s Resignation

Bhubaneswar:  The Congress on Sunday demanded the sacking of Commerce and Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera for submitting false information regarding his educational qualification in the affidavits filed during the Assembly elections in 2014 and 2019.

Congress spokesperson Nishikanta Mishra said that Behera’s affidavit submitted during the 2014 Assembly election had mentioned that he has passed Class X. However, in the affidavit submitted in 2019, he has stated that he has passed Class VIII.

He further stated that the Orissa High Court on January 28 had asked Sonepur police to probe into the minister’s educational details. However, the Sonepur SP violated the court order by not directing the IIC of Biramaharaj police station to initiate the investigation, he alleged.

The Congress leader also demanded a clarification from the Chief Minister on this matter.
