Family Attempts Mass Suicide In Odisha’s Bargarh; Son Critical

Bargarh: Traumatised over death of the head of the family, a woman and her two children allegedly attempted suicide at Masterpada under Sohela police limits in Odisha’s Bargarh district on Sunday, coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day observed annually on September 10 to raise awareness about taking action worldwide to prevent such cases.

According to sources, Kumudini Sahoo along with her son Bansidhar Sahoo and daughter Subarna Mahajan consumed pesticide unable to cope with the grief. Her husband was reported keeping unwell and died on September 6.

On being informed by neighbours, police reached the house and rescued the three by breaking open the door. They were then rushed to Sohela Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. Bansidhar was later shifted to district headquarters hospital, in a critical condition.
