Rayagada: Family members of a Class VIII student, who died while undergoing treatment at district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Odisha’s Rayagada late on Saturday, have accused the authorities of his school, Eklavya Model Residential School, of negligence.
The deceased has been identified as Mahendra Majhi.
According to the school authorities, Mahendra was unwell for the last six months and was rushed to DHH when his condition deteriorated. “We did not see the exact time but it was around 10:20 pm when we rushed him to the hospital and reached within five to six minutes. He later died while undergoing treatment,” teacher Arun Behera told the media.
Family members of the deceased, however, alleged that they were not informed about Mahendra’s health condition and his died because of sheer negligence of school authorities. “If he was not well for the last six months, why were we not informed about it?” questioned Mahendra’s elder brother Babun Majhi.
Eklavya Model Residential School is an initiative of Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs to provide quality education to students from Scheduled Tribe (ST) community.
