Bhubaneswar: With family members of a woman software engineer, who allegedly died by suicide in Odisha capital, claiming that she took the extreme step after being blackmailed by a male friend, police here have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC.
The deceased, identified as Sweta Utkal Kumari of Bhadrak district, was found hanging in a rented apartment at Sailashree Vihar on Friday. Though the exact reason behind her death is yet to be known, it was suspected that she might have ended her life over a failed love affair. The cops had also grilled a male friend, whose name was mentioned in a diary seized from the apartment.
A Technology Analyst with a reputed IT company, Sweta shared the apartment with three friends. She was alone on the fateful day since her friends were visiting home during Janmashtami holidays. Finding her phone switched off, her family members contacted Chandrasekhar police, which tracked the number and found her hanging from the ceiling of the room, sources said.
The cops gained entry after breaking the door. Besides the diary, police have seized her mobile phone. The footage of the CCTV camera there is also being analysed.
According to police sources, the male friend is likely to be questioned again.
