Family Feud: KCR Expels Daughter K Kavitha From BRS Over ‘Anti-Party Activities’

KCR sacks daughter K Kavitha

Hyderabad: K Kavitha, the daughter of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has been suspended from the party on disciplinary grounds.

The decision to expel Kavitha, a member of legislative council (MLC), with immediate effect was taken by KCR himself.

“The BRS high command has taken a serious view of the behaviour and attitude of MLC Kavitha and her anti-party activities in recent days. The party leadership felt that her activities and statements are causing immediate damage to the party,” the party said in a statement on Tuesday.

Action was taken Kavitha a day after she made serious allegations against her cousins — former Irrigation minister T Harish Rao and former MP J Santosh Rao – that they had amassed huge assets and made her father a scapegoat in the alleged Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project scam.

Kavitha questioned the existence of BRS when the party president was made an accused in the Kaleshwaram project case, which is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“When KCR is forced to face a CBI inquiry, does it even matter whether the BRS survives or not?” she asked.

She directly accused Rao and Santosh of being responsible for irregularities, if any, in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project case. “It was Harish Rao and Santosh Rao who handled key aspects of the project. They accumulated huge assets blinding KCR. They are the anacondas of corruption,” Kavitha alleged.

Post imprisonment blues

Trouble had been brewing for quite some time.

Kavitha faced the heat in BRS since she was arrested by the CBI in the Delhi liquor policy case in March 2024, and jailed for nearly six months. After being granted bail by the Supreme Court, Kavitha took up the cause of OBCs independently, which irked the party leadership.

Last month, Kavitha was removed as honorary president of the Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) while she was out of the country.

Accusing party insiders of plotting against her, she said her ouster was politically motivated.

“A grudge was held against me for simply questioning the party’s internal functioning,” she said.

She referred to a letter she had written to her father, which was leaked.

In the letter, written after the party’s silver jubilee meeting, Kavitha said: “As you (KCR) spoke for just two minutes, some people began speculating that there will be a tie-up with BJP in future. Even I personally felt that you should have spoken strongly (against BJP). It might be probably because I suffered (because of BJP). But you should have targeted BJP some more, Daddy.”

She questioned who leaked the letter and accused insiders of weakening the party.

“I wrote hundreds of letters. What’s wrong in writing a letter?” she said, alleging that rather than probing the leak, the leadership turned against her.
