Bhubaneswar: A day after a young girl, Subhalaxmi Sahu of Kuabagh Sahi in Bhadrak district, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Bhubaneswar, her family members on Sunday alleged that she was murdered and later hanged to pass it off as a case of suicide.
“She left home and told us that she would stay with her friends there,” her father Ramesh Chandra Sahu told the media.
“She was studying at RD University in the city and had told the family that she was staying with friends in the mess. We don’t know why she went to the hotel. But how can person sitting on a bed hang self?” asked a relative.
According to sources, the girl checked into the hotel near Laxmisagar Square on Cuttack-Puri Road in the city around 3.30 am. She booked a room and took its key. When she did not come out of the room till evening, the hotel staff got suspicious and knocked on the door. Failing to get any response, they opened the door with the master key. They found Subhalaxmi hanging with her stole from the ceiling fan.
Police seized the body this morning in presence of her family members. The postmortem is being conducted at Capital Hospital here. The manager of the hotel is being questioned and the footage of CCTV camera installed there is also being examined. The mobile phone of the deceased has been seized and it can shed light on circumstances leading to the incident, the sources added.
