Jajpur: The mysterious death of a youth in Odisha’s Jajpur district took a dramatic turn on Saturday after his family alleged that he was murdered by his friends.
The body of Satyajit was recovered from the Dudhi river under Ramachandrapur police limits on February 3. Though initially treated as a drowning case, his family now alleged that the youth was assaulted and deliberately pushed into the water.
According to his family,
Satyajit was picked up from his home around 11 am on Tuesday by his friends, who told him they were going to a garage. He never returned and his phone switched off from 2 pm onwards, raising suspicions among his family. After his body was found floating in the river 10 kms from his home, locals called the authorities. He was admitted to the Community Health Centre at Bari where doctors declared him dead.
His family has accused his friends of orchestrating the murder, alleging that he was brutally assaulted before being thrown into the river. They have demanded a thorough investigation and justice for their son.
Sources said a case has been registered at Bari police station and an inquiry has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the death. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to establish the exact cause of death.
