Mumbai: The item song ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’, featuring Katrina Kaif, is one of the hit songs of 2010.
But surprisingly, choreographer Farah Khan didn’t want to picturise the song on Katrina, and called it the ‘cheapest’ song of her career.
When Farah recently visited actress Manasi Parekh’s house for her new vlog, she disclosed that ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ was made on a shoestring budget, but it turned out to be a blockbuster.
“When someone boasts to me that they made their song on a huge budget, it doesn’t impress me. I believe the smaller your budget, the better you think. The cheapest song of my life is Sheila Ki Jawani,” Farah said, while discussing Manasi’s small budget film, ‘Shubhchintak’.
Farah further shared, “We didn’t have any set for it. All we had were these 10 dancers. We finished shooting the entire song in just three and a half days. It is the cheapest song I’ve done and the biggest hit of my career. One of the top three or four hits.”
Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and composed by Vishal-Shekhar, ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ from the film ‘Tees Maar Khan’ topped music charts across the country.
The song was a turning point in Katrina’s career, who was earlier known for her girl-next-door image.
But initially, Farah wasn’t confident that Katrina was the right choice for the song.
During a conversation with Mukesh Chhabra on The Bombay Dream by Mashable India, Farah said, “Pehle to main obvious choice se rehti hun thoda door. I think the only time I made an obvious choice was jab Maine Tees Maar Khan mein Katrina Kaif ko liya. it was obvious because wo Akshay Kumar ke saath 6-7 movies kar chuki thi and I was very against ki mujhe usko nahi lena hai. but wo ghoom ghaam ke wohi aayi picture mein.( I stay away from obvious choices. Katrina was an obvious choice because she had already done 6-7 movies with Akshay. I didn’t want to cast her. I was against it. But somehow, she was signed for it.)”
Starring Akshay Kumar, Akshaye Khanna and Katrina Kaif in lead roles, the film revolves around a conman who plans to rob a train carrying treasure.
Directed by Farah Khan, the film was produced by Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Shirish Kunder, and Ronnie Screwvala.
