Bargarh: A day after torching his pest-affected crops, a farmer of Kalapani Panchayat in Bargarh district allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Brunda Sahoo took the extreme step in his paddy field. Some villagers immediately rushed him to VIMSAR in Burla, where doctors declared him dead.
More than 10 farmers, including Brunda, of Kalapani Panchayat had set their paddy fields afire on Tuesday complaining that pesticides supplied to them by the state cooperation department was of inferior quality and failed to save their crops from brown plant hopper and pest attack.
