Phulbani: A farmer of Kilupada village of K. Nuagan block in Kandhamal district Gobardhan Mallick died on Friday evening after allegedly consuming pesticides.
According to the family members, the deceased had raised paddy in three acres of land this year after taking loan from bank. However, the crops were damaged in heavy rain and pest attack. Depressed over the crop loss, the deceased took the extreme step.
The villagers have demanded compensation for the bereaved family.
