Puri: A farmer was electrocuted after an overhead 11-KV electric wire snapped and fell on him at Barena village under Sadar police limits in Puri district on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Shyama Bhoi, was working in a field when the mishap took place.
When the farmer fell down after coming in contact with the live wire, some locals rushed to the spot to rescue him. But he had succumbed by that time.
The villagers alleged that the incident occurred due to negligence of local electrical employees and sought compensation to the family of the deceased.
On being informed about the mishap, district officials reached the spot and assured the agitators of an inquiry into the matter.
