Dhenkanal: A farmer allegedly committed suicide over loan burden at Beltikiri village under Sadar block in Dhenkanal district on Wednesday.
He was identified as Aswin Sahoo. His body was found hanging in the backyard of the house.
According to reports, Sahoo had taken over Rs 1 lakh loan for growing paddy over four acre. He was under stress for past four days fearing crop loss following drought-like situation.
On being informed, police reached the spot and started investigation.
A similar incident was also reported from Khandiabandh village in the district, where a farmer attempted suicide by consuming poison.
The farmer, identified as Artabandu Rout, is currently undergoing treatment at Dhenkanal hospital. He had grown paddy over eight acre by taking a loan and he took the extreme step after the crop was damaged, reports added.
