Khurda: A farmer was killed and another sustained grievous injuries in an elephant attack at a village in Tangi area of Odisha’s Khurda district.
According to reports, the incident took place at Siko village under Tangi forest range late on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Ratnakar Behera, a local farmer.
After hearing some noise from the threshing yard near his house, Ratnakar along with another villager Dinabandhu Baral rushed to the site. The duo saw two elephants and one of the animals attacked both.
The two were rescued by villagers and taken to the district headquarters hospital in Khurda where the attending doctor declared Ratnakar dead.
Dinabandhu, who sustained critical injuries, has been shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for tretment. His condition is stated to be critical.
On getting information, forest and police personnel visited the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
