Balasore: A farmer was killed and a minor girl critically injured in separate incidents of lightning strike during nor’wester in Bhograi area of Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Bachu Das of Bichitrapur village in Kanthibhaunri panchayat.
As per preliminary reports, the farmer was working in his paddy field when lightning struck.
In a similar incident, a girl was hit by lightning strike at Chapapalasia village when she along with her family members was going to the field to work.
Both were rushed to the hospital where doctors declared Bachu dead. The girl is undergoing treatment.
In another mishap, a woman was critically injured when a tree fell on her under the impact of nor’wester while she was returning home from the field after finishing work at Rasalpur village.
She has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) at Balasore for treatment, sources said.
