Rourkela: A farmer was killed in an elephant attack at Modipara village under Rajgangpur forest division in Sundargarh district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Gobardhan Lakra.
Lakra had gone to an agricultural field near his house when an elephant suddenly appeared before him. The wild animal then attacked him with its trunk, killing him on the spot.
Meanwhile, a herd of 10 elephants entered a saw mill at Kalunga Industrial Estate in Rourkela.
On receiving information about the incident, forest personnel reached the spot and attempted to chase away the animals from human settlement.
On the other hand, another herd of 17 elephants had been destroying crops in three villages under Lathikata block of the district.
