Kalahandi: Hundreds of farmers blocked National Highway-26 at Amapani on Saturday, demanding that Koksara block in Kalahandi district be declared drought-hit.
Vehicular movement on Bhabanipatna-Jeypore Road the district was disrupted owing to the blockade.
The farmers of different gram panchayats under the aegis of ‘Sachetana Chasi Sangthan’ gathered on the national highway, following which hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the road.
The farmers said that a committee should visit their paddy fields to estimate the crop loss due to drought and they be compensated for the same.
They are also demanding MSP of Rs 3,000 per quintal of paddy and pension for the farmers.
