Farmers’ Bodies Call Off Stir In Odisha

Sambalpur: The two-day impasse in the procurement of paddy came to an end in Odisha as the farmers’ bodies called off their agitation on Thursday.

The agitation was called off after the minister Sushanta Singh and BJD MLA Rohit Pujari had a meeting with the farmers here in the afternoon.

Talking to media after the meeting, farmer leader Ashok Pradhan said that the state government agreed to receive the paddy from the farmers without the token. Besides, the government also agreed that there will be no time limit for the procurement of paddy from the farmers in the Hirakud command area.

Notably, the farmers had resorted to the agitation following an announcement by the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister Ranendra Pratap Swain on Wednesday that the online token system for paddy procurement will continue.
