Cuttack: Thousands of farmers under the aegis of Navanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) staged a protest in front of Cuttack collector’s office on Wednesday to press for several demands.
Holding placards and banners in hands, the farmers from 15 blocks of the state took out a rally from Traffic Square and marched towards the collector’s office in front of which they staged a massive demonstration.
“We have come here to give an ultimatum to the state government through the collector to take immediate steps for fulfilling our long-standing demands including appropriate price for their produce, cold storage facilities and monthly pension of Rs 5, 000 calculated for the past 20 years and Rs 5, 000 for one quintal of paddy as minimum support price. This time, our protest will definitely mount pressure on the government,” said NKS state coordinator Akshay Kumar.
More than 3 lakh farmers will hit the streets in different parts of Odisha and paralyse vehicular movement in the state, if the government fails to fulfil our demands at the earliest, he added.
