New Delhi: The protesting farmers have rejected the government’s proposal to suspend the three farm laws for 18 months and set up a joint committee to address grievances.
The general body of Samyukt Kisan Morcha, umbrella body of the 40 protesting farmer unions, met on Thursday to consider the Centre’s proposal made a day earlier during the 10th round of meetings, reported The Indian Express. And at the end of the meeting, they reiterated the demand of withdrawal of the three contentious laws and enacting legislation for remunerative MSP.
The government representatives are scheduled to sit with farmers’ union leaders next on January 22.
The Supreme Court has stayed implementation of the laws till further orders and formed a committee of experts to resolve the deadlock.
Thosusands of farmers have been protesting at various border points of Delhi since November 26 last year.
