Farmers Threaten Multiple Steps If Jan 4 Talks With Govt Fail

New Delhi: Protesting farmers said on Friday they will be forced to take multiple steps if the next round of talks with the government on January 4 fail and their demands are not met.

“If the January 4 meeting with the government fails to end the deadlock, we will announce dates for shutting all malls, petrol pumps in Haryana,” The Indian Express quoted one farmer leader as saying at the Singhu border.

According to another leader Yudhveer Singh, farmers will conduct a tractor march on January 6 in case the seventh meeting with the government yields no solution as well.

The farmers, who have been agitating at different border points of Delhi since November 26, have been steadfastly demanding withdrawal of the three contentious farm laws and a legal guarantee for minimum support price for crops.

They claimed that so far, just five per cent of the issues raised by them have been discussed.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, on the other hand, had said after the January 30 meeting that that there had been mutual agreement on two of the four issues on the agenda.
