Farmers To Protest Against Agriculture Laws Till Modi Govt Lasts

New Delhi: Reiterating their intent and determination, senior farmer leader Mahendra Singh Tikait’s son Narendra said on Wednesday that they are ready to protest at various points of the Delhi border for the remaining three-and-a-half years of the Narendra Modi-helmed Union government’s second term.

Narendra doesn’t hold any official position in Bharatiya Kisan Union, while his elder brothers Naresh (BKU president) and Rakesh (spokesperson) have been leading from the front an agitation that started at the Delhi border points, against the three farm laws, on November 26.

But the junior Tikait has always been extremely vocal on issues concerning farmers.

“I am here in Sisauli but my eyes are there at the protest,” Narendra told PTI, adding that he visits Ghazipur border from time to time to meet thousands of farmers who have been camping there for over 100 days.

Narendra said the Centre should not be under any misconception that it can “cull” the farmers’ protest like it has in the past using various tactics.

“This government has a misconception, probably because it never faced such kind of protest, but we have seen agitations and been part of those for 35 years. This government only has an experience of facing smaller protests and of getting those culled through various tactics,” he said.

He also said the entire Tikait family will quit the protest if any wrongdoing is proved against even a single family member.

“They cannot crush this protest by any means. This will continue for as long as our demands are not met. This government has a tenure of three and a half years left, and we can continue the movement till the end of its term,” he asserted.
