Berhampur: Even as the dharna of Dimple Das in front of the house of her legally married husband Dr Sumit Sahu, here, continued for third day on Wednesday for performing traditional marriage, her father-in-law Pramod Sahu said his son has filed for divorce.
Speaking to the media, Pramod admitted that Sumit had married Dimple in the court. But a few month after the marriage, Sumit wanted to divorce Dimple and has already filed the papers in the court for the purpose.
Pramod, who stays at Brahmanagar in the city, claimed that they had never given any assurance for a traditional marriage to Dimple’s family at any time. His family had also not made any arrangement for the marriage, he added.
Dimple has alleged that she and Sumit had signed the marriage certificate at a registrar’s office a few days back. They were to solemnise the marriage through customary Hindu rituals on Monday.
As Sumit did not turn up on the marriage day, Dimple along with her mother sat on a dharna in front of his house. Dimple has also released their wedding card to the media. She accused the police of supporting the Sumit’s family after taking money from them.
Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra said a case has been registered at Mahila police station on the basis of Dimple’s complaint. Since the divorce has been filed in the court, the police will take action as per the court’s order, he added.
