Binjharpur: A father allegedly sold off his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter for failing to repay a loan to another man in Jajpur district.
According to reports, one Ramesh Barik of Malia village in Binjharpur police station area had borrowed Rs 5000 from Mitu Jena, a resident of Sayadpur in the same district.
Ramesh, however, couln’t repay the loan amount and instead sold his daughter to Mitu.
Based on a complaint by the girl’s grandfather, police raided Mitu’s house and rescued the baby.
Police handed over the girl to the District Child Protection Officer, Niranjan Kar. He has placed the child at a shelter home run by Sishu Mangal Samiti.
Police have rescued a two and half year old baby girl from Sadaypur area in Jajpur district who was sold by her father as he could not redeem money.
Binjharpur police swung into action after the baby girl’s grandfather lodged a complaint at the police station against his son in this connection.
Police said they have registered a case and investigating the matter.
