Bhubaneswar: An 11-month-old baby boy, allegedly kidnapped from near Patia railway station in Bhubaneswar, has been rescued, Macheswar police informed on Wednesday.

According to sources, unidentified miscreants allegedly snatched the baby boy away from his father around noon the previous day while he was buying household articles at the market near Patia and fled in a white car.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the father, police started a probe and rescued the baby from Madhupatna area in Cuttack from one Sarat Mohanty within 12 hours.

Speaking to the media, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh the kidnapping was staged by the child’s father, Subhrat Shetty, and husband of his live-in partner, Bishnu Prusty, to force her to return to the latter. “Police found discrepancies in Subhrat’s statement and grilled him further following which he revealed that he along with Bishnu plotted the kidnapping about 15 days ago over phone. Shantilata Maharana had married Bishnu about 10 years ago but moved in with Subhrat following some dispute about two years ago. The child born out of this relationship. However, Subhrat and Shantilata started having fiction about two months ago and the former wanted to leave her. Meanwhile, Bishnu was keen to have his wife back,” he said.
