Father's Day

Happy Father’s Day: Here Are A Few Screen Dads Who We Can Relate To

They say movies mirror life, even if it is with some amount of exaggeration. Bollywood has given us a plethora of screen fathers who instantly connected with our real lives. To commemorate Father’s Day, we pick some dialogues of on-screen dads that most fathers can relate to. Here they are:

Pankaj Tripathi (Colonel Anup Saxena in ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ 2020):  Plane ladka udhaaye.. yaa ladki dono pilot hi bolte hai

Jo log mehnat ka saath nahi chodte kismat kabhi unka saath nahi chodti

Pankaj Tripathi in the film is absolute dad goals. Gunjan finds her biggest cheerleader in her father, who not only supports her seemingly impossible dreams, but also pushes her to achieve them.

Manoj Bajpayee (𝐒𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐢 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐧) Paise ped pe ugte h Kya? or Tumhara papa Bill Gates nhi h
He just like any other desi dad out there. He has his share of awkward moments while always trying to be the cool, affable father to his children. One of the best scene is from the new season when Atharv is blowing hard at his trumpet and trying his best to make some music to which Srikant says, ‘Itna mat phoonk. Picche se hava nikal jayegi!’ .

Jameel Khan (𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐡 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐫𝐚 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐤): Beta, Mohnish Bahl wala shakal hon a toh Salman ke dialogue nahi pela karte

This middle-class-hardworking dad is seen always trying to comfort his kids, creating memories and laugh-worthy moments, despite a financial crunch. He loves to impress his kids.

Anupam Kher (Dharamvir Malhotra in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, 1995): Fail hona aur padhai na karna… hamare khandaan ki parampara hai

This version of dad is what all children yearn for. These cool characters are rare in real lifecases, but some are there are some who would accept their kids with all their vices and flaws with comic approach.

Ram Kapoor (Tej Khullar in Mere Dad Ki Maruti, 2013): Isko dekh ke pata chalta hai ki kuch janwar apne hi bachchon ko kyun kha jaate hai

A strict father who is in constant tussle with his own creation is not uncommon in our society. They get a kick out of their dominating attitude. However, that doesn’t mean they are not well-wishers of their children.

Amitabh Bachchan (Raj Malhotra in Baghban, 2003): Joh bachche apne maa baap ko pyar nahi de sakte, sahara nahi de sakte, maan samaan nahi de sakte… unhe main kabhi maaf nahi karta

A polished and sound upbringing of their children is what these dads practise and believe in. They are tough inside, but have the knack of forgiving their children for minor slip-ups.

Ronit Roy (Bhairav Singh in Udaan, 2010): Agar isse mere ghar mein rehna hai, mera kamaaya hua khaana hai pehnana hai to mere hi hisaab se rehna padega

This is a strict dad and getting his love is tough for the children. Their philosophy of ‘my way or highway’ may work sometimes work, but not always. Their love is unconditional, but discipline and reticence are what they demand most.

Manoj Bajpayee (Sardar Khan in Gangs of Wasseypur, 2012): Agar humare bete ko kuch ho jata to itna goli maarte ki aapka driver bhi khali khoka bech bechkar rayees ban jaata!

These dads are rare, but they do exist. This is an extremely protective father who will turn the world upside down in case his children suffer even a minor scratch.

Farooq Sheikh (Mr Thapar in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, 2013): Jaha tumhara jee chahe jaao, jo jee chahe karo, jis tarah zindagi jeeni hai jiyo, beta ek baat yaad rakhna zindagi mein chahe jo ho jaaye, kuchh bhi, mai humesha tumhare saath hoon

These dads belong to a rare breed, you may come across a handful with slight modifications. Being selfless and supportive is these dads’ most important quality which makes them more approachable for their kids.

Tigmanshu Dhulia (Ramadhir Singh in Gangs of Wasseypur, 2012): Beta, tumse na ho paayega

This is an example of a realistic father who has a clear idea of what the children are capable of. Sometimes these dads are hated persons, but they can also be a mirror for their children.

Amrish Puri (Baldev Singh in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, 1995): Ja Simran… ja jeele apni zindagi… ja beta ja

These dads have a strong exterior, but with soft hearts. They cannot take defiance on the face, but will eventually adjust to the wishes of their children in extreme cases.
