New Delhi: While deciding a petition in favour of a single mother, the Delhi High Court has said that having a father’s name on a minor’s passport is not a compulsion, and the mother’s name is enough for identity proof. The Passport Manual 2020 recognises several conditions allowing the exclusion of the father’s name from the travel document, the court said.
The woman filed a plea contending that since she is a single parent and the father has abandoned the child, authorities should not insist that the father’s name be mentioned on the child’s passport, Wion reported.
