New Delhi: A fatwa has been issued against Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, the Chief Imam of All India Imam Organisation, days after he attended the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
The Imam told ANI that the fatwa was issued against him on Sunday, but he has been receiving threat calls since January 19, hours after the Ram Mandir inauguration.
“Those who love me, love the nation and will support me. Those who hate me for attending the ceremony should perhaps go to Pakistan,” the Imam said in a tone of defiance.
After receiving the invitation from the Ayodhya temple trust, the Imam thought over it for two days before deciding to attend the event.
By his own admission, it was the biggest decision of his life and he went “for harmony and for the country.”
Asserting that he hadn’t committed a crime, the Imam said he won’t apologise or resign.
“I have given a message of love,” the cleric said.
