Bhubaneswar: The school fees in residential schools may be reduced by 30 per cent, a joint committee has stated in its report to the Orissa High Court.
The committee, comprising the state government officials, school authorities and parents, has reportedly recommended that the school fee can be brought down in seven different slabs.
There should not be any fee reduction in schools charging up to Rs 6,000 annually, it stated. The schools charging fee between Rs 6,000 and Rs 12,000 per annum can bring down the fee by 7.5 per cent. While there can be 15 per cent reduction for the schools charging Rs 24,000-Rs 48,000, the committee has recommended 20 per cent fee cut in schools charging Rs 48,000-Rs 72,000 per annum.
The committee has also recommended 25 per cent reduction for schools charging the fee between Rs 72,000 and Rs 100,000 and 26 per cent cut for those taking more than Rs 100,000 per year.
