Bhubaneswar: The Nayapalli Police on Thursday arrested three persons, including a minor girl, in an alleged gang-rape incident in Odisha capital.
Two of the arrested have been identified as Raja Pattnaik and Deepak Behera, both aged 19.
Though the incident had taken place on October 16, the survivor lodged a complaint with police on October 30.
“Considering the sensitivity of the case, a dedicated team under the IIC of Nayapalli police station was formed and all the accused were apprehended within 12 hours following raids. The survivor’s girl friend, who had introduced her to the four boys, and two other accused were initially nabbed. The other two were detained this morning and are being questioned,” Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra told a presser.
Those detained are Papu Diwedi (21) and Prakash Behera (23).
According to police sources, the accused girl struck a friendship with the survivor on the pretext of helping her to earn some money and later introduced her to Raja, who met the latter in parks and developed intimacy. On the fateful day, he met her at Budha park area and gave her a cold drink that was spiked. Raja then took her to a hotel, where he along with Deepak, Papu and Prakash took turns to rape her. They also recoded the sexual assault.
Investigation revealed that Raja and the accused girl later extorted Rs 12,000 from the survivor and Rs 50,000 from her mother by threatening to make the video viral, the sources added.
