Doha: Behesta Arghand, the journalist who wowed the world by interviewing a Taliban leader, has fled the country.
Arghand, who worked for Tolo News, said she will return to Afghanistan if the Taliban keep their promise and the situation becomes better.
The 24-year-old rose to fame after interviewing a senior Taliban member on August 17. She is the first female journalist on Afghan news network to interview a Taliban leader.
Now, she has fled the country because of “fear of Taliban”.
She had previously interviewed Malala Yousafzai, the young activist who survived a Taliban assassination attempt.
Arghand boarded a Qatari Air Force evacuation flight along with several family members last Tuesday.
Tolo News chief Saad Mohseni told CNN that a majority of well-known reporters are leaving the country after the Taliban seized power.
