London: Passengers getting de-boarded from flights is nothing uncommon. We come across such cases where airline officials are forced to take action against unruly travellers who are aggressive, highly inebriated, or refuse to comply with rules.
But what happened to a female flier earlier this week will leave you astounded.
Sophie Draper, a 26-year-old PhD researcher, was not allowed to fly and “discriminated against” by American Airlines after she informed the crew that she had nut allergy!
Sophie, who was thrown out of a flight from London’s Heathrow airport to New York, described her experience on Twitter.
“Dangerous airline for people with food allergies,” she wrote.
“Firstly, I was met with confused looks by AA gate staff when I told them about my severe allergy. They asked if it would be okay if people around me could still eat nuts (I informed them that my allergy is airborne, so no),” Sophie posted.
She requested the head of cabin crew to sort out the issue, but was told that the crew is “contractually obliged” to serve hot mixed nuts in first and business class.
“They were not at all accommodating… they said it was against company policy to make an announcement about any food allergies on the aircraft,” she further posted.
Sophie and her boyfriend said their bags were removed from the plane without further discussion and they were eventually escorted out of aircraft, Huffington Post reported.
